When boot is empty you cannot simply use program. If you can detect the flash follow

This will allow you program without stop at erase.

Then you need to use USB JTAG NT to debrick the modem first.

Those are Commands. Clearly you need to become Familiar with how to Use the USBJTAG NT Tool. There are Easyer ways to DeBrick. Some of which I am Sick and Tired of Posting so DO SOME READING.

It's not a blindcat....you have to type stuff sometimes.Use the commands and when it detects then use sprogram to write the flash...it will not hang that way usually

Digging through a box of old modems I had three 5100'S that seemed impossible to debrick. (I was able to use a USBNT but was difficult and results were sporadic)

Dug up a old BC, it was slow but worked without fail.

So ........reading and testing never ends.

thx for the reminder CAPONE

No Problem. IMHO the Best tool for Stuborn Modems is the Old LPT Blackcat also Knowen as the PJTag or Parallel JTag. It is Slow as Hell but Often does the Job without Fail. The USB BlindCat is a great POS IMHO.

This is speed issue. When modem is bricked the JTAG can only run in very low speed and thus sometime "speed 2" is needed. LPT is slow and that is why you feel better when modem is bricked. Just program the boot using LPT if you like and that will not take you too long and then use NT to program the rest.

The slowness of LPT JTAG is because of new OS. I think on Windows 95/98, the LPT JTAG should be quite fast. New OS does not allow direct IO access that that makes each in/out very slow. Back to DOS days, you can do anything you want without any driver.
