ambit250 does not have JTAG, only 5-pin serial port. they have a noisy bootloader so that is really the only way to flash them from stock firmware to hacked (with a serial cable).
the DPC2100R1 (bcm3349) and DPC2100R2 both have 8-pin JTAG port that is different from motorola SB510x 10-pin JTAG. you need a JTAG adapter or modified ribbon cable to connect these modems to USBJTAG or PJTAG.
the DPC2100R1 w/ bcm3348 does NOT have any JTAG port, only 4-pin serial. This modem will run hacked bcm3348 firmware (sigma, sb5100mod) however the tuner in most DPC2100 is NOT supported by the hacked firmwares due to older FATSH base firmwares.
The DPC2100R1 w/ bcm3349 has a problem with it's capacitors. These modems have a VERY high failure rate from distended capacitors and most ISPs have already pulled these modems from the field. you can find them very cheap online, replace the bad capacitors for less than $1, and have a great modem that works just as well as the SB5101.

DPC 2100 bad capacitors
Does anyone know which ones of the capacitors in the DPC 2100 are bad. I undestand these modems have a high failure rate but once the caps are repaced they work well
