DCT6412 TVPASS Card OR NOT?

Post by jrockow »

I recently picked up a DCT6412/2305 and when powered up it justs keeps looping thru some diagnostic type codes.
I noticed the "TVPASS card" slot is empty.
Should there be a card in there; is that my problem?
If so, does anyone know where I can get one?
Thanx.

as far as I know most providers are not currently using the TV pass card -- it is a secondary security upgrade if the primary mechanism becomes compromised.

I have noticed some providers will not download to the settop if it's not in there system. When a box is in hunt mode (fr1,fr2,,,) it's plat was erased. If it does not allow for the download you must replace the missing plat with a matching nvram. This worked many times for me.

Jason, can you elaborate on replacing missing plat with a matching nvram. My understanding of it, is that I can use any current plat, and would only have to replace the NVRAM that is pertained to my area. Is that correct?

Technically, you could use anyone's nvram with the same tuner/model on your CC. You just have to have the right channel map. Using someone's nvram from Florida for example with a DCT6412 and using it in Washington (assuming you live in Washington), while copying over a channel map from a DCT700 in your area would work fine.

Thank you for the explanation. I think I got it. I can use the NVtool to copy over the channel map from DCT700 to DCT6412. is that correct?

I guess the only thing thats left is find someone in my area with a DCT6412/Phase 3 box. Anyone in 60035?

Actually nvtool is only compatible with dct700/2500 and dct2000 series. I believe you would have to copy the channel map through a hex editor which is more challenging.

Funny part I don't even care about the DVR functionality, I just want to test out the HD part of it. I figure if I can get my hands on a working DCT6412 nvram, i should be able to copy it over to my DCT6412. Maybe you guys can recommend another box thats easier to test but thats also HD?

Every now and then I read some posts about the 6412 that indicate people are actually using them to watch TV.
I thought this was not possible yet; no way to fake UID.
I thought unless you fake the UID the box will be de-authed.
If someone knows how to safely use this box I wish they would share the info.

People are using them, however they get deauthed within a couple months at most.

In that case, can anyone recommend an HD box that I can use to test? Since 6412 is having problems, do any one know if 2500 or 2000 is HD?
