Strange behavior fron a NonPH

Post by drknebula »

Ok, I have experienced some strange behavior behavior similar to another post... This is what I observed:

-reset 1
-R
-init
-flshdct code
Found Intel 28F800C3
-getram dipcode
-getram code
-getram nvram
-getram ram
-save dipcode
-save code
-save dipcode
-save nvram
-save ram
PPV Info

Firmware Test 07.96
Do not forget to program the chip
UPM
Do not forget to set the NVRAM
-program code
Erase starts...
Erase time 00:00:00
Program starts...
Program speed 340.67 KB/s
Program time 00:00:06
Program pass
-program code 406000 aa000
Erase starts...
Erase time 00:00:00
Program starts...
Program speed 340.67 KB/s
Program time 00:00:06
Program pass
-setram nvram

This is similar to the problem experienced by by mr. sky. I have worked with A LOT of boxes, and this is the first time I have ever encountered this sort of behavior. As a result, the code is segment is corrupted and the nvram is out of whack too..when it powers on ther is the classic "0" in the LED display. These are the two lines from the flash.def file:

0x0089,0x88C1,Intel 28F800C3 ,0x100000,1,8,0x2000,15,0x10000
0x0089,0x8893,Intel 28F800B3 ,0x100000,1,8,0x2000,15,0x10000

Any ideas or is it just a bad flash chip perhaps? The box seemed to work fine when it was brought to me.

Anything like this please post your RPC and A7 after rest 1. This is important to make sure you can program the box. If the box has a "good" firmware nothing to worry. If your box has programmed bad boot, you MUST fix these two values to be able to program the box properly.

When you say bad boot, do you mean a bad dipcode image or something else? From what I can tell, the box was fine before I tried to program it..:)

What Should RPC and A7 show?

Does that differ by each box?

If they are not showing the correct values, is getting it to program as simple as just changing them?

The normal A7 should be 200XXX. RPC should be 00004xx.

Thanks USBBDM.
I picked up another box. CR4 board this time. I have gleaned this information:

Platform- 8
Family - B
Model - 5D
Tuner - V860DL

RPC = 00000460
A7 = 00200400

When I try program code or program code 406000 aa000, I get a Program failed at 410000. I have never encounterd this before. No idea what the hell is going on. The board looks new too...fresh off ebay...not a speck of dust or dirt on it either. CR4 board.

I notice the diagnostic screen says the tuner type is "Analog". Last time I saw this, the nvram was not correct for that board. I notice the firmware version on this box is 7.83....

Is there perhaps additional security that needs to be circumvented?
