And look at page 22 of the datasheet from the link; specifically the table and the last sentence.
Also since my diagram has W# tied high, we can read(page 20) and write(page 21) status register and set all software protection bits to 0 *if necessary.
But OP cannot even detect the flash, he must have fried the chip during removal because the flash detected prior to desoldering it..
