DCT700 with MT28W320 please read.

Post by usbbdm »

I have received some report that after 0.15 some box cannot program DCT700 properly and I had seen one of the unit with MT28W320.

If you use latest software with CFI support you need to turn it off as MT28W320 does not seems to provide right info and will cause some trouble.
To do so, start the app and type

Code: Select all

cfi 0
Nothing wrong for the software. It is just this chip provide the incorrect information about the buffer write. I will continue investigate this issue. In the mean time if your box cannot boot up after the programming after 0.15. Do the following.

Code: Select all

cfi 0
detect
ldram boot
erase boot
sprogram boot
Then reboot the box and use normal programming speed to program the plat.

I have just uploaded 0.21 to fix this problem.
Basically the new CFI allow we know if the flash is supporting buffered write (fast programming). Some chip report incorrect value in this field. Normally we should see either 0 or 5 at offset 0x54 but this chip gives 0x3 which indicates none of the standard buffered write. I select to ignore this value and consider it is not a buffered write flash for now.

CFI is not only used for dictate the buffer write site, it has more accurate definition of the flash size and zone defs. We had experienced some big AMD chip which all use the same manufacture and device ID but totally different in boot and size. CFI then provide accurate defs. For small flash (like modems with 2M) this is not really a problem.

Anyway please test 0.21 and see if it has (or introduce) any issues.

Do you use USB JTAG NT or not? Only USB JTAG NT with latest software support CFI.

usbbdm asked you if you are using the usbjtag NT --- as in the device -- you indicated you are using the nt software -- are you using a usbjtagNT or the old usbjtag with the software?
