Help to program 6120 Beta Firmware

Post by cablecowboy »

I was just wondering if someone here has put the beta firmware on a 6120?
There are instructions to use the usbjtagnt to program the boot loader but then instructions for a serial cable to do the rest. What software do they use to program with a serial cable? is it hyper terminal?

or has anyone here used usbjtagnt to program the whole flash and got it working ?(for testing purposes of course)

I used the jtagnt to do the whole flash

just load image0 + image1 both are same file "SBH_Alpha1.0.0.bin"
Wright to image0 + image1
You must use "SB6120 Noisy Bootloader.bin" to shell

you don't need to use noisy bootloader if you going to use Nt to program the image0+image 1 thats only if you going to flash the firmware using serial.

ok thanks a lot guys, I ordered the modem from ebay and the jtagnt, so as soon as I get them I will give it a try. I have the original usbjtag and bdm from here but I read they wont work anymore.

so after I flash, to change the mac and dissable firmware updates do I go to 192.168.0.1 or do i have to enter commands with jtagnt?

I believe you need it to use puddy - telnet - ssh
please correct me if I am wrong

how do you send a new xxx.cm file to the modem?
I tried tftp but have not had any sucess.
I think you can use the serial.

you don't need the noisy boot loader file to load the config file using putty.

I read one post said that serial port program will be "faster" than NT. Do you think that is even possible?
The max speed of serial is 115 kbps which translate to about 12KB/s. USB JTAG NT can do about 250KB/s programming. Read speed at 900KB/s. I really do not know how that post can be true. But if you say you need only once open the modem and program the "noisy bootloader" then you can the close the box, that is true. But speed will not be of any issue here. If you already use NT to program the bootloader, there is no point to use serial to program the image0 while you still have NT connected.

Here is the quote from the instruction.
http://usbjtag.net/t...sb6120shell.php thanks to usbjtag.net for this tutorial
devDelay suggests that you just use usbjtagnt to flash only the bootloader (BootBlock) and get experienced using serial to flash, it is much faster. And since usbjtagNT sucks, you risk damaging your flash and bricking the modem.

All I was refering to was the procedure to flash the .cm file.

I used usbnt to flash all the firmware.

Speed as they stated is doubtful.

you have to use putty to goto the ssh mode and use serv-u program to host the config file.

I just read a post at sbhacker about the jtagnt stopping half way through a flash and bricking the modem. It sounds like this has happened to a few guys. This is why they say to use a serial.
