SurfBeam SM2100

Post by techz »

Does it possible get firmware dump from ViaSat SurfBeam SM2100 satellite modem? I dont know yet what chip in based on and what is embedded OS. Do this depend on the board layout and the cpu? If that would be possible, is it possible get original firmware binary from the dump?

Until you know the CPU and if there is JTAG port then I can tell if it is possible to dump with JTAG.

I have no device yet. But it can be a MIPS-Based device (listed on their web site within MIPS-based products)
Licensee: Cavium Networks
Licensee Chip Used: OCTEON
MIPS Core: MIPS64 ISA

If it is MIPS and if it has JTAG port, then it is possible to access it with USB JTAG NT. There might need some software development giving we had only one 64 bit MIPS device tested.

The connector on the bottom is more likely to be the MIPS JTAG port.
Check if pin 2,4,,6,8,10 are grounded.
